In the former years, metal stamps that were made from brass were used for printing nativity stamp. These were generally in the form of highly crafted seals that were used with wax; was also used on important documents that were private. Most persons will remember the marking apparatus being referred to as the “stamp”. Several years after using this method of stamping, nativity rubber stamp was introduced.
When rubber stamp started circulating, there was a lot of confusion as to how the production of the first nativity rubber stamps started. It was said that in the year 1844, an American who was in his kitchen conducting some tests stumbled on the discovery of how the rubber could be cured. He started the process by mixing sulfur and rubber then added droplets to the hot stove, when this was checked a day after he realized that the rubber had remained flexible. This was later called the vulcanization process.
But it didn’t matter who started the production of these nativity rubber stamps, persons starting experimenting and creating different molds that could be used elsewhere. Some of the creations were denture base, art stamps, picture stamps and educational stamps. The rubber stamp productions started to see tremendous growth as a variety of demonstrative workshops for the craft had increased in a number of countries. The art stamps were very popular and quite often you would see them on collages or selling in shops that specializes in art stamps.
The technique of stamping or rubber stamping is a special craft that utilizes different types of ink; the ink could be made from pigment or dye. The ink would then be applied to the sheet of rubber where the pattern or image was already molded, carved, vulcanized or laser engraved. The rubber by itself is flexible and would prove challenging to achieve specific patterns; mounting the rubber on solid objects such as brick, acrylic block or wood, would give a more stable working surface.
After the application of ink to nativity rubber stamp, the rubber stamp would now be coated and ready to apply the color image to other mediums. This medium could be of any material and your choice would be dependent on the purpose for which you need the rubber stamps. Nativity rubber stamps are popularly used on some special paper or fabric type; other objects could be rock, glass, plastic, metal or wood.
Nativity rubber stamps that are utilized extensively for commercial purposes are readily available for use in decorating objects, special ornaments or children toys.
